Plagiarism is a valid cause of worry to anybody who submits content online. There have been numerous tools over the ages that are supposed to have helped web masters check duplicate content online. The service has been of utmost helpful to individuals or corporations that rely on buying content online.

As a webmaster, you should double check the articles written by your guest writers in order to maintain  the quality of your content.

There are different ways in which CopyScape works. One method is to the paste the URL of the relevant website on to the home page of CopyScape. By hitting Enter, the person concerned can see if the content is original or duplicate. Another option is by pasting the content on the text field and Copyscape performs the same function with the means of the content instead of the URL.

Copyscape has an interesting history. It was created and is still in existence to provide a better way of monitoring the content and refraining web masters from purchasing pirated or duplicate content online. The application was launched in 2004 with the combined efforts of Gideon Greenspan and Stream Technologies. The purpose of this application was realized with the advent of content writers. There have been writers before 2004, but there were few applications that could check the authenticity of the article.

Writing content for a particular website is not a difficult task. However if a writer has to write a fixed number of articles in a given amount of time, then it can lead to some problems. For instance, if a writer is instructed to write around 8 articles in 5 hours, he or she is surely headed for a breakdown. These writers then look for articles on search engines that are similar to the keywords provided by their superiors and finish their task. The problem arises when the writers just blindly copy the content from other websites without even making the required changes.

Copyscape is instrumental in checking and weeding out the duplicates from the real deal. Though in the recent years, there have been quite a few applications designed to detect plagiarized material, CopyScape still stands tall amongst all of them. This is because of its reliability, method of checking and it is much less expensive than the other applications. Another reason for its popularity is, the application has a simple design and is extremely user-friendly. The links and the required search tool are provided so that the user can get down to work immediately.

Believe it or not, CopyScape has actually played a major role in bringing down plagiarism over the Internet.
